Just Announced: The Governor’s Ball and Panorama Lineups

Two of the biggest East Coast music festivals, Governor's Ball and Panorama, have just dropped their festival lineups for this year. Governor’s Ball and Panorama both have gained massive popularity in the past few years and continuously feature big names in music, as well note-worthy smaller acts.

This year’s Gov Ball headliners are Jack White, Travis Scott and Eminem. Panorama, on the other hand, will feature The Weeknd, Janet Jackson and the Killers. Both consist of extremely talented and popular artists though Gov Ball is more centered around the hip hop and rap genre, i.e. two of the main acts are rappers. Some other notable artists on Friday are Post Malone, 6LACK, Dram, Goldlink and Two Feet. Saturday features Halsey, Silk (Diplo and Mark Ronson), 2 Chainz, Russ, Galantis, Brockhampton and LANY. Sunday includes Khalid, CHVRCHES, Lil Uzi Vert, Billie Eilish, and Vic Mensa. There have been many mixed reactions after the release of this lineup, as some fans are disappointed that not all three days are equally distributed with popular or trending artists. However, Gov Ball is an extremely well-known and respected festival, so I believe there will be a great turn-out and the festival will end up being an unforgettable experience.

Panorama, on the other hand, is a newer festival; the first one was held in the summer of 2016. There was some controversy surrounding its date and the competing ticket sales with Gov Ball, however it is not nearly as popular because of its novelty. Panorama’s lineup is very diverse. Friday features Migos, Father John Misty, Dua Lipa, Daniel Casear, and Jhené Aiko. Saturday includes SZA, Cardi B, St. Vincent, Gucci Mane and DJ Python. Sunday has The XX, Odesza, Fleet Foxes, and Rex Orange County. The major difference between the two festivals is that Panorama focuses less on the mainstream and popular artists, but more on smaller, up and coming talents who have a more unique range of genres. This is also why Panorama is less enticing to younger millennials. However, Panorama is sure to be a big success.
